Nova Praxis Pricing
/After some balancing of the budget and projected expenses, it looks like we can reduce the price of the hardcover from the current $49.99 to $44.99. So instead of pocketing that savings, we're passing it on to you.
I just issued a $5 refund to everyone who has already pre-ordered at the $49.99 price.
The PDF of the print version will sell for $4.99 once the print version of the book is released. It will be free for those who purchase a printed copy (details about how to redeem your free copy will be announced soon). This PDF is taken from the files sent to the printer, which means it will be in portrait format and will be lacking the fancy navigation options and form-fillable character sheet found in the Augmented PDF.
Once the book is released, Augmented PDF will no longer be sold at the introductory price of $9.99. It will instead be bumped to its regular price of $14.99. So if you want to get it at more than a 30% discount, you need to act fast.
Nova Praxis Augmented PDF Update
/The Nova Praxis Augmented PDF 1.2 update has been uploaded to DrivethruRPG/RPGNow. You can get it by downloading it again from whichever site you originally downloaded it from.
This update addresses a number of minor issues, corrects some typos, tweaks the navigation functions of the PDF just a bit, and includes a new printable character sheet and character creation worksheet.
You can see the list of changes here.
These changes have also been captured for the print version., for which I hope to receive a proof in the next week or so.
Nova Praxis printed version FAQ
/Just to answer a few questions I keep seeing pop up about the printed version of Nova Praxis.
Is it done yet?
Pretty much. By the time you read this the files should be off to the printer. We'll still need to get proofs and wrap up some loose ends, but we're pretty much done working on it.
What/How much is it?
Hardcover, 8.5"x11", Full color, 272 pages, MSRP: $49.99. It will come with a poster map of the Solar system and colonized exoplanets.
Can I get the print format in PDF?
Yes, the PDF used to create the printed version will be made available. We're not sure exactly how we're going to handle that yet, but I can tell you that it will not feature all the bells and whistles found in the Augmented PDF (get it here!). It will be a "bare-bones" PDF.
Will you ship internationally?
Yes, just select the international shipping option when placing your order.
Will it be available in retail stores?
Yes. We will be working with IPR to get it into stores.
When can I get it?
You can pre-order now, and I highly encourage you to do so as we use those numbers to determine how many copies to print. We expect it to ship sometime around the first of July. The Kickstarter backers will get them first.
Is it a Strands of Fate game, or a FATE Core game?
Both, kinda. See here.
Errata Logs
/Hey folks, if you are aware of any issues or needed errata with either Strands of Fate or Strands of Power, please post them in the new errata log.
Same goes for Nova Praxis and its errata log.

/Layout for the print version of Nova Praxis is complete. I'll be ordering proofs this week. I'll post some pics when it arrives.
If you want a copy, I strongly encourage you to pre-order.
For now, here's a few bits to whet your appetite.
Here's the cover image:
The print version also contains a different character sheet, and a character worksheet to aid new players in character creation. You can get them here. The zip file contains the regular and printer friendly versions.
Void Star Studios Update
/Nova Praxis is doing very well, going "Gold" on DrivethruRPG in just three weeks. Its been in the top 3 on the best sellers list since its release on March 18th, and actually seems to be picking up steam.
Thank you all very much! We've also submitted it to the ENnies, so wish us luck!
Got the first pass of the print layout for the Nova Praxis print version complete. I still have to go through and add the background graphics, page references, index and a few more bits. I expect it to go to the printer next Monday. So if you've got any errata to report, please do so ASAP.
And if you haven't already, now would be a good time to pre-order your copy. Just click on the pre-order link that you should see somewhere in the sidebar over there ----->
Also, don't forget that we released a GM Screen PDF, a handy little reference if ever there was one.
And if that wasn't enough, we're about to ramp up for two more very different projects.
The first you know about. We've started working on the GM Companion a bit. Still not sure if that's going to be the final name (doubt it), but we've got the outline pretty well done. Joe has started work on a few of the factions described within., and I'll be releasing the playtest rules for Sequences next week.
The second project has thus far gone unannounced. And I'm not going to do that here because we've got a lot of details to iron out and things can still go south. But I'll give you a few hints.
It's not directly FATE related. It's not actually dependent on a game system at all. You can use it for several. It's also something that was sold in the past, and despite it being very popular, went out of production because of economic and production issues. A few years ago I partnered with the original makers of this product, but we still weren't able to overcome the technical issues.
But now, maybe, we have. We'll see!
Is Nova Praxis a Strands of Fate game, or a FATE Core game?
/A bit of both actually.
Strands of Fate is a big giant toolbox right? It has default rule systems, but usually offers one or more alternatives. The stress track is a good example of this. It offers one set of stress rules as the default, but then provides two more that can be used instead.
Nova Praxis used some of these variant systems, and as it happened, many of the ones that best worked for the setting were those that more closely matched the "classic" FATE rules. Again, the stress tracks are a good example of this. So are Skills. The versions of the stress track and Skills rules we used in Nova Praxis are in Strands as optional rules, and are very similar to those found in other FATE games.
And yet, some things came straight from Strands. Nova Praxis still uses the Aspect Alphabet, Persistent Aspects, and a few other bits that are uniquely Strands.
Then along came FATE Core, which introduced some new ideas that worked well with Nova Praxis. So, that being the case, we made some tweaks to NP specifically designed to adopt the changes we likes and to make it easier for someone who likes FATE Core to hop right into Nova Praxis (especially in terms of how Aspects are used). In some cases we were limited in how compatible we could make it with FATE Core because Evil Hat hadn't released the OGL for it yet. That's why, in many cases you'll notice that NP functions the same way as FATE Core mechanically, even if the terminology is a little different.
In other cases, the FATE Core rules didn't properly reflect what we were trying to do with the setting. And that was the biggy. The rules had to reflect the setting. Compatibility with any other rule set always took a back seat to that.
So there you have it.
The rules for Nova Praxis are sort of a Strands of Fate/FATE Core hybrid, with a number of tweaks or new elements added in to make it work for the setting.

"The PDF is a joy to read, not only because of all the nice functionality built into it, but because the content is amazing So glad I backed this on KS." - VicenteC
"There should be an ISO standard for making usable gaming PDFs, and Nova Praxis should be certified pronto. It looks great." -PTiKachu
"Bought it. Started browsing. Am utterly happy. If you can, outsource your layout skills and ideas to other companies! This is... Amazing." - Matt.Ceb
"...together with the already powerful tools of Goodreader the layout of the Nova Praxis pdf is masterful and makes for a great experience. Head, shoulders and feet above anything else I've read digitally. The technological leap between the layout of this pdf and its competitors very much adds to the mood of the setting. I can only hope that Mike has set a new standard for the rest to follow." - bladerunner_35
"Augmented is the right word for that PDF.... DAYUM!" -Samuel Hart

Nova Praxis Release 3/19/2013
/We plan to release the Nova Praxis Augmented PDF tomorrow.
We will also be accepting pre-orders for the hardcover.
More details coming soon.
Features of the Nova Praxis Augmented PDF
/If you're interested in Nova Praxis, and you can tolerate the sound of my hillbilly accent, you might want to check out the attached video.
In addition to the standard linked table of contents and cross-links throughout the PDF, this video shows off what else the Nova Praxis Augmented PDF can do.
Now, whether not you can actually do all of this with the PDF depends a lot on your reader. I was using Adobe Acrobat in the video. On the iPad I use Goodreader. It can do everything except fill out the character sheet.
If anyone has any suggestions for good PDF readers to try, feel free to post them in the comments.
Pardon the mess, we're renovating.
/We're in the process of adding a web store, which requires upgrading our hosting software. And we're taking this opportunity to make a few other changes as well.
The Messageboard is Down
